News Summary
Fortinet®, the global cybersecurity leader driving the convergence of networking and security, has partnered with National Australia Bank (NAB) to host the third annual Cyber Codefest at Fortress Melbourne, during Cybersecurity Awareness Month. This event demonstrates Fortinet and NAB’s shared commitment to closing the cybersecurity skills gap, nurturing the next generation of cybersecurity professionals, and building a more secure future for Australia’s digital landscape.
More than 20 TAFE and university students from institutions, including Chisholm Institute of TAFE, Federation University Australia, Holmesglen Institute of TAFE, Monash University, RMIT University, Swinburne University of Technology, the University of Melbourne, and Victoria University attended this year’s event. Students participated in a capture-the-flag competition, working in teams to infiltrate a network, identify vulnerabilities, and capture a final string of code.
Cyber Codefest 2024 gave participants a hands-on experience, encouraging students to apply their cybersecurity knowledge in real-world scenarios and showcase their talent to potential employers and mentors. This year’s event also featured a presentation from Claus Tepper, executive group security platforms and operations, NAB, followed by a panel discussion with industry leaders, moderated by Cornelius Mare, chief information security officer, Fortinet. The students received valuable insights into the latest developments in cybersecurity, including the role of artificial intelligence and machine learning, current job market trends, and the wide range of opportunities available for cybersecurity graduates. Additionally, students networked with industry experts throughout, giving them an opportunity to talk with those currently practicing within the field.
Cyber Codefest 2024 builds on Fortinet’s partnerships with academia through the Fortinet Training Institute’s Academic Partner program, which supports education institutions and schools globally with access to industry-recognised training and certification to help develop skilled security professionals.
